Extra informatie - Hector-Neri Castañeda's philosophical work is marked by a rare combination of qualities: originality, rigour, and penetration, together with an astonishing comprehensiveness. His intricate network of theory and criticism reaches into nearly every area of philosophy, including action theory, deontic logic and practical reasoning, ethics, history of philosophy, metaphysics and ontology, philosophical methodology, philosophy of lan- guage, mind and perception, and the theory of knowledge. The present volume contains Castañeda's Self-Profile, nine essays on his work (by Bruce Aune, Steven E. Boër, William G. Lycan, Frank McGuinness, Jay F. Rosenberg, Esa Saarinen, Jeffrey Sicha, David Woodruff Smith, James E. Tomberlin, and David B. Wong), Castañeda's replies to these essays, and a bibliography of his writings. As a valuable aid for research, the bibliography contains an extensive listing of discussions of Castañeda's work. Héctor-Neri Castañeda (1924-1991) was a Guatemalan-American philosopher and founder of the journal Noûs. Castañeda is noted for his development of guise theory, which he applied to outstanding problems in the analysis of thought, language, and the structure of the world. He is also credited with the discovery of the "quasi-indexical".
