Extra informatie - This is the fourth edition, beining a corrected reprint of the 2nd Franeker-edition of 1719, of a very succesfull textbook on Roman Law in the Netherlands. It was used at the Hoogeschool Leiden for education in the Institutes. The first edition was published in 1699, the latest in 1844. This now forgotten book with commentaries of the Justinian Institutes is written according the principles of the Dutch School of 'Juris Consulti Elegantiores' in such a way that one of the founders of this school, Gerardt Noodt, accusses Westenberg (1667-1737), a law professor at Leiden University, of plagiat. The author treats only the Justinian Law, without putting any attention to the way this type of law was incorporated in the practice of law elswhere. This was the working copy, with his name on first free endpaper and extensive handwritten notes on the interleaved pages, of Pieter Carel Schooneveld (1788-1853). He studied law at the Hoogeschool Leiden between 1806 and 1810. From then on he was a lawyer in The Hague. In 1828-1829 and from 1840-1853 he was a member of the Second Chamber of the States-General (Dutch parliament). He was involved in the constitutional reform of 1848, which was discussed under the leadership of Thorbecke in his house in 1844. This edition is not recorded in NCC and STCN, only one copy is mentioned by Ahsmann/Feenstra in the municipal archive of Breda, but not found there anymore. W.J. Zwalve in: Groningse Juristen en hun Genootschap, 1986. Ahsmann/Feenstra 1133; Dekkers 190; Roberts 334.
