• Extra informatie: Johannes Martinus Burgers (1895-1981) studied mathematics and physics in Leiden and was then appointed professor at the Delft University of Technology. He worked there in the Laboratory for Aero- and Hydrodynamics. He also became a member of the Royal Academy of Sciences. Burgers became a member of the CPN, which he resigned from in 1933; visited the Soviet Union in 1929 and 1936, where he gave lectures. From 1955 onwards he became a professor at the University of Maryland in the United States.
