  • Extra informatie: - This handbook on the legal and constitutional foundations of the Union of South Africa was written shortly after Apartheid became the official state policy (since 1948). It documents the systemic racial segregation and white minority rule and the laws enforcing this like : the Prohibition of Mixed Marriages Act (1949), Population Registration Act (1950), Group Areas Act (1950), Bantu Authorities Act (1951), etc. For instance : the Population Registration Act of 1950 (Act No. 30 of 1950) was a cornerstone of South Africa's apartheid system, mandating the classification of all inhabitants into racial categories: White, Coloured, or Native (Black African). This classification was based on physical appearance and social acceptance, and it determined individuals' rights and access to services. The Act required the compilation of a national population register and the issuance of identity cards reflecting these classifications. It was enacted on 7 July 1950 and remained in force until its repeal on 28 June 1991.
