The Dutch lawyer Simon van Leeuwen (1625-1682) combines the classical Corpus Iuris Civilis with existing Dutch legal practices. He discusses various areas of law such as personal law, property law, inheritance law, procedural law and criminal law. The book is structured according to the division of Roman law, but Van Leeuwen continually makes notes where Dutch law deviates or supplements it. He sees Roman-Dutch law as a unique Dutch legal form, not a simple adoption of Roman law.
