  • Extra informatie: - This book offers a narrative exploring legal justice through human-centric storytelling. Published between the interwar period’s rising global uncertainty, it reflects on the inefficiencies and moral challenges of legal systems. Against a backdrop of social change and legal reforms, the authors aim to illuminate how the law is perceived by those on its receiving end - clients, litigants, accused - presenting cases that engage broader debates about fairness, rights, and the human face behind legal proceedings. Both female authors were working at the University of London and Barrister-at-Law. Dorothy Knight Dix (1909-1970), later Dorothy Waddy, was a trailblazing British legal professional. She studied at University of Lausanne and University College London before being called to the Bar at Inner Temple in 1934. In January 1946 she became Recorder of Deal - one of the first women ever to serve as a judge in a jury trial in England - and in 1968 was appointed a County Court judge, only the second woman to do so after Elizabeth Lane DBE. Her contributions to public understanding of law were matched by her judicial milestones, making her a significant figure in modern British legal history.
