  • Extra informatie: - Rare second German edition of the Code de Procédure Civile of 1806. In the Rhineland and other French-occupied areas, such as the Grand Duchy of Berg, French Napoleonic laws, including the Code de Procédure Civile, were applied untill 1814. The introduction of the French legal system brought uniformity in procedural law where it was implemented. It introduced clear, written procedures for handling civil disputes, reducing judicial arbitrariness. It also emphasized inquisitorial elements, requiring judges to actively direct cases rather than rely solely on adversarial party-driven processes. Despite the return to German rule after 1814, many elements of French law remained, especially in the Rhineland, because they were seen as more modern and efficient than the older German legal customs.
