He was born in Antwerp, studied at Louvain and Jena. Afterwards he became a professor of law in Jena and Wittenberg. He was a follower of Mudaeus (Gabriel van der Muyden, 1501-1561), famous professor at Louvain and the founder of the "back to the sources" school of civilians.
