- Extra informatie: - Rare copy of first Dutch edition, a new French, more free after the text, translation of the controversial treatise against trade by members of the church by Théophile Raynaud (1583-1663). Originally published in 1642 under the name Renato Valle and title : Hipparchus; de religioso negotiatore disceptatio ..., first translated into French in 1645. The book was placed on the Index. The frontispiece contains 4 scenes of clergyman trading. The vignette on the title-page has the motto : Hollandia: pia et sapiens hospita (Holland: wise, caring and hospitable). It shows a scene where a wealthy citizen welcomes a poor old man as the first of a whole crowd, sitting in front of the City Hall of Amsterdam, now the Royal Palace at the Dam in Amsterdam.
