• Extra informatie: - Fondée en 1107, l'abbaye de Notre-Dame des Dunes devint une des plus importantes de l'ordre de Citeaux. Elle fut détruite en 1578, lors des guerres de religion. Sa filiale de Ter Doest (Thosan) connut le même sort. Les moines regroupèrent à Bruges, dans un monastère commun, ce qu'ils avaient pu sauver de leurs bibliothèques. Le Prieur Charles De Visch dressa en 1628 le catalogue des manuscrits, dont les 101l titres représentent pratiquement tous les domaines du savoir à la fin du Moyen Age. Le fonds est, pour la plus grande part, resté à Bruges, partagé entre la bibliothèque de la ville et celle du grand Séminaire. M.-Th. Isaac étudie, sous des éclairages multiples, le catalogue de De Visch, publié en 1641 dans la compilation de Sanderus, la Bibliotheca manuscripta, dont elle a pu utiliser l'exemplaire portant les annotations personnelles de l'auteur. Elle fait de ce catalogue une édition critique commentée, fournissant à l'analyse envisagée son cadre de référence et constituant en elle-même, avec les deux index qui l'accompagnent, un instrument de travail. Quant à l'analyse proprement dite, elle apporte, comme celle de tout catalogue ancien, une contribution à l'histoire des idées, et cela sur un double plan celui de l'époque et du milieu où ont été écrits et utilisés les ouvrages mais aussi celui de l'époque et du milieu où, devenus des témoins du passé, ils ont été répertoriés, classés et éventuellement jugés. Cette étude permet ainsi, dans une perspective plus large, d'évaluer l'apport à l'histoire des idées, de la bibliographie érudite d'autrefois. Dans tous les cas, la nature du terrain impose au chercheur moderne une constante circonspection et l'amène à formuler, & affiner et à discuter des problèmes méthodologiques. Dans le cas de la bibliothèque des Dunes, la possibilité, généralement donnée, de se reporter aux exemplaires confère à la démarche de recherche une valeur de paradigme. - - Founded in 1107, the abbey of Notre-Dame des Dunes became one of the most important of the Cistercian order. It was destroyed in 1578, during the wars of religion. Its branch of Ter Doest (Thosan) suffered the same fate. The monks gathered in Bruges, in a common monastery, where they had been able to save their library. In 1628, Prior Charles De Visch drew up the catalogue of manuscripts, whose 1011 titles represent practically all areas of knowledge at the end of the Middle Ages. The collection has, for the most part, remained in Bruges, shared between the city library and that of the Grand Seminary. M.-Th. Isaac studies, from multiple angles, De Visch's catalogue, published in 1641 in Sanderus' compilation, the Bibliotheca manuscripta, of which she was able to use the copy bearing the author's personal annotations. It makes this catalogue a critical annotated edition, providing the envisaged analysis with its frame of reference and constituting in itself, with the two indexes that accompany it, a working instrument. As for the analysis itself, it brings, like that of any old catalogue, a contribution to the history of ideas, and this on a double level that of the time and the environment in which the works were written and used but also that of the time and the environment in which, having become witnesses of the past, they were listed, classified and possibly judged. This study thus allows, in a broader perspective, to evaluate the contribution to the history of ideas. In all cases, the nature of the field imposes on the modern researcher a constant circumspection and leads him to formulate, & refine and discuss methodological problems. In the case of the library of the Dunes, the possibility, generally given, of referring to the copies gives the research approach a paradigmatic value.
