  • Extra informatie: From the publisher : Using the analogy of biological growth, the author of this book, a seasoned teacher and practitioner of public administration at the national level, brings into focus a variety of facets of the problem of administration. He centers his discussion on the need for the creative growth of all individuals in an organization as the criterion of good administration. Mr. Dimock argues that the reason we are in danger of losing our prominent position in management, that we eturning from the beliefs that made us great to false gods and false goals, is that we lack a proper philosophy of management. Such a philosophy, he believes, would integrate all of the elements that enter into leading and running an institution-elements that are not only internal but also external, such as the most fruitful relationship between private business and government. The book is in a sense an answer to recent indictments of "the organization man." For it defines the challenge of executive work in philosophical and ethical terms; and it provides a constructive frame of reference for management to serve the deepest needs and aspirations of each individual in the organization. The author sets forth a rounded philosophy, based on his experience and reflection. At the same time he has written a practical book for practical executives. Marshall E. Dimock is Professor of Political Science and Head of the Government Department, New York University. He is a former Assistant Secretary of Labor and was Assistant Deputy War Shipping Administrator during World War II. He is the author of several books on public administration.
