  • Extra informatie: - The central research question of this dissertation is 'Does Ambient Intelligence influence human identity, and if so, what does that influence consist of?' This research question immediately raises two other questions: 'what is Ambient Intelligence?', and 'what do you understand by 'human identity'?' After a general introduction in chapter 1, in chapters 2 and 3 of this dissertation I have examined the concepts of 'Ambient Intelligence' and 'identity'. In the next part, consisting of chapters 4 to 6, I was able to answer the research question. Ambient Intelligence, as I show in Chapter 2 of this dissertation, is a vision of the technological future, originally developed by the Dutch company Philips. Soon after its launch, this vision was adopted by the European Commission and has become an important part of the European Union's policy agenda. In a world of Ambient Intelligence, this view argues, we are surrounded by networks of technology that are hidden from view - concealed in furniture, in walls and windows, in household and office objects, and in clothing or even our bodies.
