• Extra informatie: - Rare first edition of report on the prison conditions in Switzerland and Europe, advocating for reforms. Added is a report of Sir Thomas F. Buxton (1786-1845), philanthropist and MP on the Women's prison at New Gate. He paid close attention from his first session in parliament to the operation of the criminal laws. He seconded the motion made by Sir James Mackintosh for a committee on this subject. He sat on two select committees appointed to inquire into the penal code, and in consequence of the reports of the respective committees the government brought in a bill for consolidatng and amending the prison laws then in existence.
