- This most important work by Johannes Voet (1647-1713), professor of law at Leyden University, was 18 years in preparation. The addenda of the first edition (1698-1704) are incorporated in this, second edition. Roberts 321; Part 1 contains commentaries on Book 1-22 and Part 2 on Book 23-50 of the Justinian Digest, discussed in relation to the customary law of that time. Despite its humanists elements is considered as a Dutch contributiton of Usus modernus Pandectarum. The commentary has been of the highest authority in South Africa as source of Roman-Dutch law.
